All 3 of my gmail accounts, lets call them A,B,[email protected] presently are using same outgoing server: Google Mail- smtp.gmail.com When I go to edit the B and C gmail account servers, all that drops down is: Google mail-smtp.googlemail.com (default) Google mail-smtp.gmail.com Google mail-googlemail.com Google mail-googlemail.com Google mail-googlemail.com

Under "Manage Identities" tab they are showing the correct corresponding email addresses.

I know I need to change the outgoing servers for B and [email protected]. But specifically, how do I do that? It won't allow me to change any of the details in the drop down. Not that savvy as you can tell, but I'm learning. Thanks for your help to everyone!

  1. Add an SMTP profile for each of your accounts under Tools > Accounts Settings > Outgoing server (SMTP).
  2. Make sure their Description is different so you can recognize which is which.
  3. Choose individual outgoing SMTP servers for each account under Tools > Account Settings > (click on the account being configured)
  4. Find the Outgoing server (SMTP) option
  5. Click on the drop-down list

Hi Fabian. Thanks for helping. With your help I figured out how to be able to edit outgoing server names...but... I'm still having an issue. When I am assigning a new server name to gmail accounts B and C, where you indicated in the attachment 'blah'.gmail.com, I assumed that I just change that first part (where you have "blah") to a name. Obviously that doesn't work. What do I change the outgoing server names to? Am I communicating this issue without confusing? Thank you again.

I'm concerned that you're using identities. If you have three Gmail addresses then they should be set up as three distinct accounts. Any account set up as a subsidiary identity of another account will be obliged to use its parent account's smtp server, and that's what is causing your problem.

You will use the same server "name" (it's actually an address) for your three Gmail accounts though each one needs to be set up to login in using the account's username (i.e. email address) and its password.

The trick here is to change the description of each of the three smtp servers to reflect which account it belongs to.

I use three Gmail accounts myself. One "main" account, a second one for work, and a third one set up to allow an address book to be synchronized with an Android phone. So that's three incoming Gmail imap accounts, each with its own dedicated outgoing smtp server "account". These three smtp accounts are set up as in Fabian's pictures.

Thank you Zenos. However that isn't my question. I appreciate that you say to follow Fabian's information. I have. And I do have 3 seperate gmail accounts, obviously with 3 seperate gmail addresses. I recognize that I need to rename the outgoing servers each with a different name. As I posted, I followed the directions, however what do I call the new names of the outgoing servers for gmail accounts A, B, and C. My only choices listed are smtp.gmail.com, so all mail goes out from account A. What do I change the B and C accounts to for outgoing server name? Are you saying I change the outgoing server names to be the email address for each account? Thanks.

Gmail's smtp servers all have the same name. What you need to change is the description. Fabian has muddied the waters slightly by using "blah" and thereby suggesting that the server name (and actually this is its address) should be different in each case.

All three should be using smtp.gmail.com as the server name. (You have some strange made-up names with hyphens. These are just plain wrong.) But each one needs to have the appropriate username, password and a description that tells you which account each one belongs to.

Are these IMAP-based accounts? If so, you might be better off deleting all three and starting over allowing Thunderbird to find all the right settings. Your mails are all stored on the server, so deleting accounts in Thunderbird won't lose them.

In your first post you mentioned "Manage Identities" and despite your new assertion that these are indeed separate accounts, I believe that if you do have anything set under Manage Identities it will mess you up.
