Doesn't work; need more than one sentence.
Can't get email from server, get the old "Mailbox is full, need to compact" warning popup. I have 1) deleted messages from inbox, 2) moved all messages out of inbox so it is empty, 3) compacted, compacted, compacted, 4) searched for recommendations to fix, 5) found and deleted all .msf files from folder, 6) deleted Global index file per recommendation, 7) all index files were rebuilt by Thunderbird, 8) rebooted numerous times, 9) still see "Determining Which Messages To Index" every time I open Thunderbird and wait for it to finish. I have been working this for two days. I still get the error message that the "Mailbox is Full and Can't Hold More Messages and I Need to Compact" when I try to get mail off the server. Hoping for more recommendations. TIA.

You can ignore "Determining Which Messages To Index" for now, it is irrelevant to your problem.

Thank you for the assistance. I found this article earlier and followed the steps, including deleting the inbox and inbox.msf files. (I see I had forgotten to include that activity in my description of what I have already done.) After your response, I deleted the Inbox and Inbox.msf files again and gave Thunderbird another chance to rebuild it, however it didn't help. I still get the original error message.
