Hamster, your useragent says: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:130.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/130.0

So I don't know if you're spoofing it aka using a fake useragent or what. But those articles Cor-el linked you to will auto-detect your OS from the useragent & show you how to backup the bookmarks for that OS.

If the exported HTML file isn't working (which is surprising) then switch to exporting it as a .json file. To do that, DO NOT use the Export Bookmarks to HTML file option. Under Import and Backup, use the first option on top of the menu called "Backup...". There you will only be able to export the bookmarks into a .JSON file.

Can I transfer this html into a json?? I don't have easy access to my old OS now...

Going from HTML to JSON is not possible as JSON contains much more data than HTML, the opposite (from JSON to HTML) is possible and not too difficult.

Did you try to open this HTML file in a Firefox tab to check that there aren't problems with the file ?

I can open the html file in tab, it brings up a big list of all my book marks... But it won't import into the bookmarks section on "import bookmarks"

In some cases, importing an HTML backup places all the bookmarks in the Bookmarks Menu folder, maybe do a search (Library or sidebar) for a known bookmark to see if anything comes up.

The name of automatically created JSON bookmarks backups in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Library Restore menu drop-down list.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.

Can I export as json and then import as json on new OS?

Yes, you can create a JSON backup on the old device and import this file in the Library on the new device.

The Mac laptops and desktops uses macOS as the iOS you keep thinking of is the mobile OS used on iPhones and early iPads.

Did you keep a backup of files in the profile folder since you were able to get a JSON backup? Do you have a bookmarks HTML backup?
