How to disable autosave for bookmarks

I have the option 'Show editor when saving' checked, so I'm getting the bookmark editor popup window when I want to save a bookmark .

However, more often than not, a bookmark is being saved without me clicking the Save button .

My understanding is that it's a feature of sorts, but it's driving me bonkers, and I just can't remember what I need to do to not save a bookmark - hit esc. , click the star button again, use the keyboard shortcut, or whatever it is . Nor do I care to be frank, I really just want Firefox to not save a bookmark without confirmation , which I thought would be the main point of having the optional editor window .

Is there any way to disable autosave for bookmarks completely ? Sorry about the rant, it's just so unintuitive and annoying, and I'm tired of cleaning out my bookmark folders all the time ...

Chosen solution

Unfortunately I think the assumption is that if you have clicked on the add bookmark icon, or pressed ctrl+D etc, then you actually want to bookmark the page.

The editor is there just to provide a way to set or change a few default options for the new - and assumed to be wanted - bookmark.

Sorry, but I personally do not know of any way to extend or remove the editor's timeout. Or how to change it's default closing action to cancel rather than save. Perhaps you could make a feature request for this?

Yes, that drop down closes automatically if you do not interact within about three seconds with this window after it opens. I'm not aware of a way to prevent that apart from interacting with this drop down window.

Thanks for your reply !

The window doesn't close if you hover over it with the mouse cursor, but that's not really the issue I'm having .

What I'm looking for is the option to not ever save a bookmark, unless I click the save button in the bookmarks editor popup window , or any other kind of confirmation .

You can try to press the ESC key to close the pop-up if you do not want to save the bookmark and do not want to click the Cancel button. I don't know if this works on Mac.

Thanks again for your replies , much appreciated !

Esc. works too, but as TechHorse said, it's about the FF default being to save the bookmark when in doubt .

Basically I'd rather have it behave like Save vs. Save As does in most apps ; Save As won't be executed without user confirmation , by clicking a button or enter .

Here is an old thread on a related topic , including one-click bookmarking .

I posted a suggestion - or is it called ideas ? - already, will also make a feature request .
