Firefox does not fire intents for clicked links the way it should. I have a link like locus-actions://http/vegetationmap4africa.org/2_Vegetation_map/Mobile_maps/map_burundi.xml (see http://vegetationmap4africa.org/2_Vegetation_map/Mobile_maps.html) which should open the app Locus map viewer. Instead, I get the message that there is no app to open this link. Using the search option to manually look for an app, I get a list of apps from the store, including Locus map viewer (which is however already installed).

I am currently using Firefox Beta for Android, but also tried Firefox for Android, both with the same problem. In Chrome, the native browser of my mobile and a few others I have tried, this works. Clicking the link will open Locus map viewer.

So, there was a bug open to change what the handler did with app specific links like this one. It was resolved to give an option of installed apps or to open the store to search for an app that could handle the url. See Bug 851693

This change is marked for Firefox 41, which will be in Nightly (41) coming in June.

However the part to search for an app if one is not detected is not yet resolved: See Bug 1164112

In a more general sense, the future versions of Firefox will ask the user to choose an app to open these app specific uris.
