I've been seeing this problem since last year and I'm about ready to switch to another browser because of it. Firefox stutters when it opens some websites, and I think the problem has to do with self-starting videos and video ads that appear on those sites. For example, the NY Times (nytimes.com) now routinely places video ads near the top of its home page, which I think causes that webpage to jump up and down as the browser loads the ad. This even happens when I open a new tab from a link on the nytimes.com homepage, and then return to the homepage. The page appears to refreshe automatically, as does the video ad, even though I only clicked on the tab to return to the homepage, not actually do anything on it.

A bit of this happens with Safari when I first open nytimes.com, but it is not nearly as bad. I'd like to stick with Firefox, but all this jumping around is ruining my experience. Is there a fix?

Thanks Fred. I have AdBlock on Firefox but for some reason I don't remember, I had disabled it on NYTimes.com. Enabled it and solved the issue -- for now! Thanks again!
