Web content on many web sites jumps up and down the screen. I realize some of this is from dynamic ads embedded in the content that appear and disappear but this auto-scrolling seems to happen even when there are no ads. It is really annoying to be reading, and have the content jumping around. Note that I am not using the mouse or doing any manual scrolling when this occurs.

This seems worse after I upgraded to latest FF, which I think is 50.0.2 or so.

One other thing - I do not have Flash enabled by default. I rarely turn it on. The jumpiness happens even when there is no video content.

Does this happen only when the page is loading or all the time?

It happens all the time. Even this page that I am responding to you on is jumping around.

I just tried Chrome and it is doing the same thing. I think maybe my mouse is sending bad signals to the computer and this has nothing to do with FF.

Thanks anyway...

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Unplug the mouse. Does it still happen?

Some touchpads send signals thru the computer even if nothing is pressed. Disable it.
