Hi

I strongly recommend that you update to the latest version of Firefox so that you have the latest security and stability improvements that may resolve the issue that you are seeing.

What is the size of places.sqlite in the Firefox profile folder and how much bookmarks and history do you have ?

This could be a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to check the current state of the places.sqlite database. You can use "Places Database" -> "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page.

Thanks cor-el , the problem is definitely with ff93. I updated to ff94 , restored all bookmarks + favicons and the problem disappeared. I even tried it with ff56 and it all went well. Regarding seburo recommendation , well , in later updates 94 etc.. my userContent.css doesn't work anymore , that's why. look4

What code in userContent.css isn't working ?

In Firefox 69 and later you need to set this pref to true on the about:config page to enable userChrome.css and userContent.css in the chrome folder.

Hi cor-el , yes , of course , toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets is set to true. My userChrome.css works but the major part of userContent.css does not. for example here is what works in FF93 and does not is FF99 :

@-moz-document url(chrome://browser/content/browser.xul), url(about:newtab), url(about:home)

       {
       body {
           --newtab-background-color: #0080ff !important;
           --newtab-border-primary-color: 0080ff !important;
           --newtab-border-secondary-color: #0066cc !important;
           --newtab-card-background-color: #0066cc !important;
           --newtab-contextmenu-background-color: #44aed7 !important;
           --newtab-element-active-color: #ffffff !important;
           --newtab-icon-primary-color: #cc0000 !important;
           --newtab-inner-box-shadow-color: #000000 !important;
           --newtab-modal-color: #a6a6a6 !important;
           --newtab-search-border-color: #80aaff !important;
           --newtab-search-dropdown-color: #ffffd9 !important;
           --newtab-search-dropdown-header-color:#1f1f1f !important;
           --newtab-search-icon-color: rgb(255, 255, 255) !important;
           --newtab-section-active-contextmenu-color: #ffffff !important;
           --newtab-section-header-text-color: rgba(255,255,255,1) !important;
           --newtab-section-navigation-text-color: #ffff00 !important;
           --newtab-text-conditional-color: #66ccff !important;
           --newtab-textbox-background-color: #ffffff !important;
           --newtab-textbox-border: #ffffff !important;
          --newtab-topsites-background-color: #0080ff !important;
           --newtab-topsites-label-color: #ffffff !important;
           --trailhead-header-text-color: #99ccff !important;
      }
   }
this works fine but the part of the background also changes the font color(odd thing):

@-moz-document url("about:newtab"), url("about:home") {

      body {
          background-color: #262626 !important;
      }
  }

html,body{

   scrollbar-color: rgb(45, 89, 134) rgba(0,0,0,0)  !important;
  }

I am all out of fresh ideas. look4

The main browser window is no longer browser.xul but has changed quite some time ago to browser.xhtml, but I'm don't think that this selector has effect in userContent.css. If you use this in userChrome.css then you need to make this change there as well.

@-moz-document url(chrome://browser/content/browser.xul) =>
@-moz-document url(chrome://browser/content/browser.xhtml)

Note that it is better to use url-prefix() in case some extras are appended like can happen with about:preferences.

@-moz-document url-prefix("about:newtab"), url-prefix("about:home")  { ... }

Firefox may change the font color if it thinks that the contrast ratio is not sufficient.

Thanks cor-el , will try and see what happens. The part of customizing the content of the new tab is definitely by usercontent since it worked so far although changing font and font-size was not , so far , any how , will give it a try and see , thanks. look4
