Address book, send emails not working. Windows 10. Norton Security. two pop twc.com accounts (spectrum)
Thunderbird Email Problem After the last update to Ver# 78.4.0 my Thunderbird email software is not performing properly. I believe this occurred on October 28, 2020.
What works: • I have no problem loading Thunderbird • I am receiving emails and the filters I have created are working fine, placing emails in the appropriate places. • The last sent email was on 10/19/20
What is not working: • I cannot access nor open my Addressbook, both Personal and History. • I cannot send emails. The Send button is not activated. • I cannot reply to existing emails. I have clicked on reply, typed the message I wished to add and again, Send is not an option available. I have tried many things on your Support site, as well as other help posts on the Internet but to no avail. I have looked at my Profile and all appears to be fine but Thunderbird does not appear to be looking at it for preparation of outgoing emails. I did try creating a new Addressbook as someone noted and it I did see it in my Profile but I cannot save nor retrieve any email addresses I try to put in it. Help please.

I know with the holidays you are all probably very busy and I totally understand and have no problem with this. I am going to wait until this evening and if I have not heard back I am going to stop, replace the file with the old one and see if I can still see my incoming emails. Then I need to decide if I should continue down the path you both recommended or try the reverting to an older version of Thunderbird. I am very nervous about either direction.
I still strongly believe that the problem is with Mozilla's update. I see quite a few people with horror stories with it.
Again, hope you both had a Very Merry Christmas and an upcoming Happy New Year!!!
Wayne, Per your suggestion, I quit the update, refreshed my file explorer and yes global-messages-db.sqlite is still 0 KB.
I am going to replace it with the old one just to see if my email history is still available, Fingers crossed.
Yup, all my emails and new posts are there. I know you can't hear it but there was a big sigh of relief!!!
Now if I can only get my address book and outgoing emails to work I would be happy. I know that you and your associates are starting to exhaust your ideas. Old version vs New Profile???

Strange. I fail to see how putting the exact same file back could allow old messages to be displayed and new messages to come in. You did use the same file, correct? And you are talking about having your Inbox displayed, not having search work, correct?
But there clearly is/was a gloda problem, per the error console 2020-12-23 14:35:23 gloda.datastore ERROR got error in _asyncTrackerListener.handleError(): 14: unable to open database file

First a question. Your mail provider is twc.com. But who is your internet service provider?
Hi Wayne,
"Strange. I fail to see how putting the exact same file back could allow old messages to be displayed and new messages to come in. You did use the same file, correct? And you are talking about having your Inbox displayed, not having search work, correct?" YES
I replaced the file "global-messages-db.sqlite" with the back up I had and all my old emails were still there and the download of current came right in. Even while I was running what you had me do, my filters in Thunderbird were still moving and deleting email files per the setup i created.
That is about all I can tell you.
On a separate note, I do use Norton's, and once a month I do a thorough cleaning of my computer with a regiment my IT Manager where I use to work put me on. Most of it can be seen on "Security Tango" which can be reviewed online. I have been doing it for about 17 years. I do it the end of the month so I will plan on doing it again Thursday for Friday.
As for my Internet provider and email provider, same basically for both TWC or more correctly now Spectrum (Roadrunner.)
Again, incoming email is fine. Address book and sending emails is not.
Is it totally out of the question that Mozilla/Thunderbird broke something when the released the new version?. I appear to see a lot of people online that are experiencing problems. Not trying to cause problems, only trying to find answers to fix it.

Wayne, another thought. I, just for the heck of it, booted up my old pc and thought I would try and see how Thunderbird was doing. I had a feeling that it would do auto-updates of Thunderbird and I was lucky to be prepared to stop it and turn the feature off before it went all the way. My old machine did load Thunderbird, updated what email it could that were still on the Roadrunner server, and my address book was available!!! What I noticed though was the blank Address book screen (like the one I have shown attached from my current machine) came up for a brief second before loading my Address book. It never did this before. This made me wonder if I was overlooking the obvious. What tells Thunderbird were and what to look for when I click the Address book button? I do not see anything that allows me to tell it where to look, or what to look for. After-all, I was instructed to set up new Address books (abook-1, abook-2 and even one I see that I did not do abook-3.) How do I verify what and where it is looking for? I know I am grasping for straws. But on my old machine it did pause briefly before going to my actual current (on that machine) Address book.

Wayne, I did my computer cleaning today and it did not help. I still cannot get access to my Address Book, send emails and one more thing I was going to ask about, (Tools -> Options -> Privacy and Security -> Mail Content -> Allow Remote Content in Messages) when clicked does not allow remote content to be visible like previous versions. You have to open them in Firefox.
I am hoping you have answer for all these problems or a procedure to revert back to my previous version which allowed all this to work properly. The last email I sent out was on 10/19/20 and I had updated to Ver# 68.12.1 on 10/1/20. This worked great so it would be good to go back to this.
Thank you.

Would I dare change/rename the abook.mab.bak to abook.mab and the history.mab.bak to history.mab? Or does this create other problems? I had backed up my profile, actually twice so I have previous versions of my current profile?
This is how I could replace the other file (global-messages-db.sqlite) we had talked about earlier in this thread, to restore my incoming email history.

Wayne, I tried emailing you. Are you getting this thread anymore of do I have to start over.
Wayne Mery, I emailed you the info you requested but have not heard back in a little over a week. Can you or someone else help or is Thunderbird not going to work anymore? If this would be a no go, can you or someone help me go back to the older version 68.12.1.
Am I locked out. I am getting no replies or support? Help Please.
