have you added the new AOL account using the information supplied by your provider? I really have no idea what verizon are doing. So I am flying blind here.

Doing some googling tells me this.

If you are unable to send and receive email, then the day to migrate your verizon.net email account to AOL Mail has arrived. Log into your email from webmail.verizon.com, where you'll see a message from us indicating "Today's the Day". Click the "Get Started" button to begin the registration process with AOL.

Have you done this?

If you do not know your verizon.net User ID, you can retrieve it through the "Forgot User ID" link on webmail.verizon.com. If you do not remember your password, simply follow the "Forgot Password" link at webmail.verizon.com to reset.

Then you need to create an aol email account using the instruction here https://help.aol.com/articles/how-do-i-use-other-email-applications-to-send-and-receive-my-aol-mail

note that your email address does not change and the server names and settings are detailed here

But if your having difficulties, attack it one thing at a time. Migrate using the web mail. If your having difficulties doing that contact Verizon for assistance. Once that part works, we can work on Thunderbird.

I am assuming your current account with Verizon is a POP mail account. So you will loose nothing while we work through the processes.

I suggest you check my assumption. about the account being pop. Right click the account in the folder pane, select settings. In the account windows that opens, select server settings for the account. The account type it at the top on the right of the window.
