After a mail merge I get error measage about outgoing server
I'm using the Mail Merge add-on, and have created 1100 emails to go out. I used the default location for the outgoing emails, which in this case is the outbox. But now I get an error message (see attachment) and cannot stop the error message from appearing over and over, to the point where I am basically locked out of TB. Cold someone help me with this? I'm using IMAP, and all the settings are the same as before the mail merge.
thanks

The problem may be that pobox doesn't like sending that many emails at once, as it looks like you're generating spam. Reboot and try sending just one message to confirm that your email is working ok. And then release messages in small groups.
Hi David,
Great advice, but TGB won't allow me to do as you suggested. The error message keeps popping up again and again as soon as I hit the "OK" button, so I am unable to use your suggestion.
Is there a way around this?
Thanks,
I'm not sure what you mean by the 'OK button.' You have many messages queued and need to remove from queue. My guess is they are either in Draft folder or Outbox. They need to be cleared first.
Hi David What I meant by the OK button is the one that appears in the error message, the image of which I attached in my first email;. As long as that error message keeps popping up, I have no way to do anything but keep hitting the OK button of the error message, which simply keeps popping back instantly.
Okay, I am assuming that TB attempts to send mail immediately. So, desperate measures needed. My suggestion is to close TB, and with File Explorer, look into profile for imapmail folder and the account folder and look for drafts or queue files, probably with msf suffix. With 1100 messages, the file should be fairly large. Rename it and restart TB. I think that may interrupt the queued mailing.
I'm pretty sure the messages are in the outbox. When I search for .msf files and sort by size, I find 2 outboxes, but both seem pretty small. Maybe I should rename both as old_outbox1 and old_outbox2 and see if that works. What's your opinion? Is there any other way besides file extension to located queue files?
thanks!
I would try it. You can always rename back, if needed.
So for a few minutes I thought the fix had worked, but now it's happening again. Same error message, even though the outbox is clean. Incoming email is happening in the background, but the error message prevents me from seeing the inbox or accessing its messages. I have a backup of my profile folder from the day before I used the mail merge. Maybe I should rename the current file folder and copy the backed up profile to my directory?
Also, i noticed TB made a new outbox folder after I renamed my old one. Although the new outbox has no messages, the same error message keeps popping up.
Yes, restore the old profile. You comment on the outbox was not unexpected. With a restored profile, you should be in better shape. I regularly backup my profile every day.
Hi David,
Replacing the profile folder with one from before th emerge did the trick. Thanks again for your help!
I have two other issues with TB. The first is i sometimes get an email, but when I click it to read it, I see a whole lot of machine language. (see attached file)
The second is an error message about not being able to save an email (second image)
Could you help with these?
thanks,
These are difficult. The first may occur if an email is corrupted, showing the source code and not the message. You might try toggling between view>show message body as HTML and as plain text. If it only happens on occasion, I don't see TB as the cause. You might track patterns, i.e., maybe they tend to come from same person or organization? If it continues, possibly a reinstall will fix it, as that will only happen (from my experience) if an antivirus or other program corrupted some settings. The other item is sometimes caused by too many connects to server and your TB settings are probably set to 5 and you may have a phone also in contact. If this doesn't occur all the time, then it's situational. You might reduce concurrences by sett TB to use fewer connections at tools>account settings>server settings and the advanced tab. I've had several people say that tip worked, but not always. And I admit to not being that technical on server interactions.
