Email not getting out, getting error message
I switched from Imap to Pop, and the emails are coming in fine, however, the outgoing mail isn't working, I get this error message: Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com timed out. Try again.
I've checked the outgoing settings, and I think it's correct. I'm not computer-tech savvy....

Q: Did the old imap account use 'Authentication Method': 'OAuth2' or 'Normal Password' for receiving and sending?
re: I switched from Imap to Pop,
When you say 'switched from imap to pop' I presume you created a new existing mail account for the gmail address, then when Thunderbird auto selected to search for imap, you used the 'Manual Config' button so you could choose pop and enter the pop settings.
Please tell me you did not access the imap account settings and swap the server details.
Q1: Did you remove the imap gmail mail account ?
Q2: Did you remove the Outgoing Server (SMTP) used by the old imap account ?
Q3: Do you only have one gmail account in Account Settings left pane ?
In 'Account Settings' Bottom of left pane select 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)' This will list all your Outgoing Servers. Q4: How many Outgoing Server (SMTP) do you have in the list for gmail ?
