I have the latest flash plug-in installed from adobe's website.

Flash isn't working. It's not showing up on my list of installed plug-ins.

Checking all my plug-ins for updates, firefox tells me "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Flash. Please upgrade to the latest version."

Looking at my .mozilla/firefox/<snip>/pluginreg.datfile, there is an entry for it: [INVALID] /usr/lib64/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so:$ 1320112563000:$

This plug-in works fine under 3.6.26.

I have tried removing that line from the file, uninstalled and reinstalling the rpm, but I get the exact same results every time

You can check the location and type of the other plugins.

Did you try to download a 32 bit Flash plugin?

You can create a plugins folder in the Firefox Profile Folder and place the plugin or a symlink to it in that folder.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

You may be seeing that message only because you do not have the Flash plugin installed.

Do you have a 32 bit or 64 bit Firefox version?

A 32 bit Firefox version needs a 32 bit Flash plugin.

Flash Player on 64-bit operating systems:

Good point. I assumed I was running the 64-bit version of firefox (since it was trying to pull in the version of flash in lib64), but I didn't confirm. The version of flash is 64-bit (based on the rpm name).

Dumb question: how do I check whether I am running 32-bit or 64-bit? In older versions of FF, I could tell via Help -> About, but in 10.0.1 it doesn't show it. I tried looking under about:config, but no field seemed obvious.

DOH! I was running a 32-bit version of FF afterall. Removed the 64-bit flash RPM, installed the 32-bit RPM, and now it works. [Now flash no longer works in Firefox 3.6.26 (which I need to use for some sites due to legacy issues.....), so apparently that one is the 64-bit version.]

NOTE TO FIREFOX DEVELOPERS: IMHO you have some work to do regarding 32- vs 64-bit.

First, the error message when trying to use a 64-bit version of flash in a 32-bit FF *needs to be changed*. It is not a matter of being too old, it is the wrong architecture.

Second, you need to add any easy way to tell which version of FF one is running.

Third, can you add a way to download a specific version? When I try to download FF, it doesn't give me any option as to 32-bit vs 64-bit, etc. Even though I am running in 64-bit mode, it appeared to have downloaded the 32-bit version.

Thanks!
