I installed the free edition of AVG 2011 today and since then Firefox (current version, 3.6) crashes every time I try to open it. I can't find anything in the AVG settings that would obviously stop Firefox from working and I don't remember seeing anything get deleted from the Firefox files during the initial scan/fix that would do it. I've tried disabling parts of AVG to see if that does anything and I've tried opening Firefox (safe mode), no joy for either.

The answer may end up being 'reinstall Firefox'. My main problem with doing that is that I fear losing some passwords, my bookmarks, some setting etc.

I've also been to the AVG support site, I'll be posting this there as well.

Back up your bookmarks by exporting them to an external file. Also if uninstalling do not use the option to clear your personal data.

I seem to recall it is the AVG safe search that has occaisionally been associated with problems in firefox, try disabling or removing that feature.
