Hi Tim, what happens when you try to upload the images? Is there a specific error message?

Are you able to upload larger images -- is there some particular cut-off -- or is this a problem with all images?

I was stumped on how to get backk with you thru email. finally figured out conversation needed to be within Firefox.

I just tried much larger Jpeg images. Same result. Files would be recognized (visual sample) for a second then refuse to finish uploading. I forgot to mention. uploading Squarespace stock images from Unsplash worked fine, no problem. Message "there was an error, retry with the same file" which of course I did retry to no avail.

To review, Squarespace tech can upload my files and using Microsoft Edge as my browser I can upload my files.

If you try the Browse button below the reply box here, can it upload one of those same image files? In other words, is this a general issue with uploading images or is it somehow specific to Squarespace?

In case this is a cross-site authorization problem with Squarespace image hosting:

Firefox recently rolled out "Total Cookie Protection" to more users. This limits how sites can use "third party" or "cross-site" cookies, meaning cookies from different websites than the one you see in the address bar. When multiple servers are blended within a specific pages, some parts of the page may fail due to not knowing you are logged in.

You can make exceptions to this feature when needed (for each server that you visit as part of the process of using this company's services). More info in the following articles:

I uploaded a jpeg image to the browse button below. No problem.

I read the two articles.

Clicked firefox tracking shield (to off) top left before entering Squarespace. No help.

Back to Firefox. Deleted all cookie protection then turned off shield at top left before Squarespace. No help.

I hope I followed your thoughts well enough to effect a proper test

Hi Tim, thank you for trying that.

I don't have a Squarespace account, so it's hard to get close to the problem. Firefox does have a panel that displays script and security errors on pages, which can sometimes help identify the problem. It also tends to have lots of false leads, but if you look for messages triggered by uploading, perhaps it would help. Here are the steps:

(1) Load the page where you want to upload an image.

(2) Open the Web Console using Ctrl+Shift+K

(3) At the upper left of the console is a little trash can. Click that to clear the mess.

(4) In the upper part of the tab, try uploading an image and then check for new messages in the console.

Anything interesting?

By the way, is this specific to JPEG (.jpg) files? Can other types of image files be uploaded? Occasionally sites have uploading problems if .jpg has become associated with a different content type that is not allowed up the uploader. But I suspect they would show a different error message in that case, like, not an image file.

I created a png image file and a gif image file. Same results. Neither would load.

I hope I followed your instructions correctly. Made a screenshot of the report while attempting the original jpg file.

You think it a good idea to send a copy of screenshot to Squarespace tech ?

Hi Tim, the first pink row has a "401 Unauthorized" response, which reminds me of my original suspicion about cookies. It looks like the shield is a bit purplish on the page in your screenshot. Could you click that shield again and confirm that Enhanced Tracking Protection is disabled on that page?

You need to click the shield on the page where you want to turn ETP off since you wrote: Clicked firefox tracking shield (to off) top left before entering Squarespace.

I very carefully atempted to turn off shield from immediate page after trashing console reports.

Shield was already off

Soooo I got all the way out and shield deactivates as soon as I bring up Squarespace main page bfore logging in and stays off while navigating squarespace. I then looked at Firefox Privacy and Security / Enhanced tracker / Manage exceptions

There are four variations of Squarespace listed

I do not have auto password. I enter password manually

I did notice the top warning line in the console pops up just BEFORE attempted upload

Does it make any difference if you manually add an exception for media-api.squarespace.com (on the Settings page, Privacy & Security panel, Enhanced Tracking Protection section, Manage Exceptions button)?

PROBLEM SOLVED sort of.

Im a dumbass. Just occured to me. Went to the other end of the house. Fired up my wife's computer and uploaded jpeg files into my Squarespace.

No change on my computer after adding media-api.squarespace.com Still unable to upload.

I really don't know what we're missing here, whether it's a setting or some mysterious data issue.

You don't owe me anything, but if I ever start using Squarespace, I might have some questions for you.

I'm not sure how you ended up with the exception for the http:// origin. Did you add them yourself as you would normally expect https:// origins or are that lust typing errors and are the exceptions you posted above secure https:// ?

I'm not sure I understand your questions. I do not know the source of the exceptions: perhaps a Squarespace tech support event long ago

I did notice my wife's computer will upload my jpeg files no problem. So I checked. There are no Squarespace exceptions in the Enhanced Tracking Protection on her computer.

A few minutes ago I deleted the exceptions on my computer. Still cant upload jpeg files to Squarespace on my computer.

How bout I delete all of Firefox and Squarespace then re-install both ?

Hi Tim, rather than clear ALL of your current settings, you could first test whether Firefox would work better in that configuration. Here's how:

New Profile Test

This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to test the site.

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Take a quick glance at the page and make a mental note of which Profile has this notation: This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted. That is your current default profile.

Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name like Test2023, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.

Firefox will switch your default profile to the new one, so click the Set as Default Profile button for your regular one to avoid an unwanted surprise at your next startup.

Scroll down to Test2023 and click its Launch profile in new browser button.

Firefox should open a new window that looks like a brand new, uncustomized installation. (Your existing Firefox window(s) should not be affected.) Please ignore any tabs enticing you to connect to a Sync account or to activate extensions found on your system to get a clean test.

Can you upload images to Squarespace in the new profile?

When you are done with the experiment, you can close the extra window without affecting your regular Firefox profile. (Test2023 will remain available for future testing.)

I just backed up my Firefox bookmarks. Is it time to trash Firefox, then get online via Microsoft Edge and load fresh Firefox ? If so I asume I will lose this thread OR can I pick up this thread again?

Update. I have gone back to Squarespace with your brilliant suggestions. First guy wanted Javascript and Network screenshots at time of attempted image file upload to Squarespace. First tech handed it up to his guru.

Now its wait and see.

I may just trash Squarespace and upgrade as I am one version behind 7.0 versus 7.1

I will report to you when I hear back from Squarespace.
