Home page won't open on boot
After last or previous update, Firefox does not load home page. Get message with last tabs:
Sorry. We’re having trouble getting your pages back.
We are having trouble restoring your last browsing session. Select Restore Session to try again.
Still not able to restore your session? Sometimes a tab is causing the issue. View previous tabs, remove the checkmark from the tabs you don’t need to recover, and then restore.
Did all this it is still happening. Last time removing some file folder did not correct. Do not want it to restore last session!
What is causing this?

This happens if Firefox didn't close properly the last time. Does this happen if you close down the computer and let Windows close the browser ?
Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox Title bar, especially if you have multiple windows open to prevent losing tabs in unnoticed windows.
- "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
- Windows: File -> Exit
- Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
- Linux: File -> Quit
Cor-el,
Closing per this advise does not correct. Problem is that program defaults to looking for previous page(s) that were running at time browser was closed. Needs to be corrected in next update. At time has also opened the last page, yet never the home page as listed in the system. Previously was told to remove some folders. That also had no results. Am running latest edition on PC with Windows 10 64bit. It is still occurring after the PC has been closed down, recent memory cleared, CCleaner run and all cookies removed.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file in the Firefox profile folder that stores session data.
- rename/remove sessionstore.jsonlz4 and sessionstore.js
You may also have to rename the sessionstore-backups folder.
When sessionstore.jsonlz4 is deleted you lose pinned-tabs and open tabs and you will have to recreate them, so if necessary make a note or bookmark them. sessionstore.jsonlz4 is only present in the Firefox profile folder when Firefox is closed.
You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).
- Help -> More Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Folder/Directory:
Windows: Open Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data
Cor-el,
Tried this, but there are two folder in my profiles:
%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bdimqdg0.default-1417238009710-1576036826344 and
%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\hy48r71y.default-release
Both contain the file, sessionstore.jsonlz4 but neither have the sessionstore.js file!! What does one loose and what should one rename the sessionstore-backup folder. What could be in there that the system can not just go directly to the home page I have listed?
After deleting the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file (should I do in both folders???) Firefox then does open to the Home Page…..but only once. After closing and reopening it again is looking for the former page, yes still having trouble.
What is the real solution. As I said last time it did finally some months ago correct itself after an update. JJE
The uncompressed sessionstore.js file was used by older Firefox versions and is normally not present except in a very old profile or if you restored an old backup. Current releases use the compressed sessionstore.jsonlz4 file, so you only need to remove this file in your case. sessionstore.jsonlz4 is only present when Firefox is closed. If there is a problem with this file then Firefox might behave erratically. Did you check the startup setting in "Settings -> General -> Startup" ?
Use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder.
- Help -> More Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Folder/Directory:
Windows: Open Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data
Cor-el,
In the Settings Folder, if I am in the correct one, there is only one file, Data.safe.bin. Please direct me to the correct file if this is incorrect. As said removing the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file works only once, then the system is back to attempting to find previous pages. So, what am I supposed to be checking in the Startup file in Settings\General\Startup????
Tell me in attached image if I am in the proper folder. Trying these "solutions" just wastes my time. It is quicker just to reload from the home page "house" icon in tool bar to go to my home page.
