Recently I installed the new Kubuntu 22.04 with the new thunderbird. It no longer opens browser links (at least it opens some, but most it doesn't).

I tried opening it in the console and got the following - the first parts when thunderbird opened and the last lines when I clicked on a link in an email message. The web address that it claims doesn't exist does, in fact, exist.

I've looked up all the help, suggestions about config.editor etc .... but none of it sees to work.

It looks from that lot like you may have HTTPS defined somewhere in your OS as a file, so it is passing the links to the file handler, not the HTTP protocol handler.

Matt - thanks for this - I think you're right - but I can't find where it is being blocked. It seems to open links that are not https. For example, it opened this link

http://www.linstat.ipt.pt/

that I received in an email without a problem.

I installed the package tree and looked through the OS files and tried to delete anything that looked as if it might be causing a problem - but nothing changed.

When I installed Kubuntu 22.04 it gave me a snap version of firefox which seemed to have problems (it refused to allow me to set it as `default' browser) so I uninstalled it and installed the deb version instead.

I would start in the preferences just looking at the handlers that are registered.

Then the preferences in the support article. Almost entirely Linux preferences. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hyperlinks-in-messages-not-working#w_check-that-no-application-is-specified-for-the-http-content-type

I've read this article - and tried what it suggested - no luck.

Also, I tried installing a different browser to see if it was a browser problem (I used Brave Browser) and the same outcome.

One of the things that I get in the console is:

console.warn: services.settings: thunderbird/hijack-blocklists has signature disabled

Where do I find thunderbird/hijack-blocklists?
