Hi J,
Just wanted to follow up again since I haven't heard from you. If I don't hear from you, I'll likely go ahead and close the bug we have on file for this in a few days.
Thank you, Andrew

User is unable to download the composite page PDF using “Ensight Intelligent Quote” but are able to download individual PDFs. User is not experiencing the same issue with other browsers.
User states they've tried clearing cache and refreshing Firefox. They've also tried contacting Ensight. User wishes to continue using Firefox.
Via Twitter, I've suggested:
- Firefox Safe Mode
- Disabling ETP (Enhanced Tracking Protection)
Hi J,
As promised on Twitter, I am connect with you over the support forum.
Please confirm the following information to us:
- Operating System
- Firefox version
I am curious if there are errors being sent out when you are receiving the 'spinning circle'. Using the Network Monitor and Console, check to see if it shows you any error or warnings. To access the Network Monitor, see https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Network_Monitor. The console tab is one tab to the left of the Network tab.
Thanks
Information from: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1298190
"MacOS Catalina Version 10.15.6 Firefox Version 79.0 64 bit"
Please provide the information from the Network Monitor and and Console tabs within Firefox. To access Network monitor, press Command + Option + E and you will also find 'Console' a little over to the left of it. More info on the Network Monitor is in the link previously provided.
I can open the monitor...don't know how to send that info to you. J
Here's a screenshot of the program I having issues with
No error messages on monitor
J,
Do you have another device where you can test this and see if you experience the same issue?
Another suggestion I have is to do a clean install.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove your Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not remove your Firefox profile data (such as bookmarks and passwords), since that information is stored in a different location.
To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, please follow these steps: Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows: (Note: Check both folders.)
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
- Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
- Windows: (Note: Check both folders.)
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.
Thank you.
Andrew, still no joy. I've checked other machines, Windows/paralells... all browsers work EXCEPT Firefox. J
Is the problem with the button that says Summary PDF or with the Create Presentation button? Does clicking the button do nothing, or does it give you an error message?
Typically a PDF button will trigger a download, and Firefox will handle that like a normal PDF link, either opening it in a new tab or popping up the Open/Save dialog, or saving it automatically.
Sometimes a PDF button will run a script in the page and generate a PDF on the fly. This would normally show the Open/Save dialog every time.
I also wonder about the bottom part of the screenshot that looks like an error message about retrieving content into the page. Does that appear before or after you use the button?
The problem is with the "summary pdf" AND THE "download selected".
This happens "Typically a PDF button will trigger a download, and Firefox will handle that like a normal PDF link, either opening it in a new tab or popping up the Open/Save dialog, or saving it automatically.", if i click on the pdf icon on any invidual line. Until most recently this also worked for the "summary pdf" & "download selected".... the summary pdf downloads the page as you see it and keeps the pdf icons alive so the individual icons can be clicked and that individual file is available for viewing or downloading. I have recieved no error messages... J
In your screenshot, the bottom of the page shows some kind of error loading the data. Does that happen in other browsers? If not, can you get the data to load fully in Firefox and then test the Summary PDF button again?
that error is company specific and doesn't affect any of this. Other browsers, computers, windows & Mac all work..... as did Firefox til about 10 days ago.......
I'm not sure what you may or may not have seen in the Web Console. To expand on that:
You can open the Web Console in the lower part of the tab using either:
- "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Web Console
- (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Web Console
- (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+k
Click the trash can icon at the upper left corner of the console to clear existing messages. Then try the button and see whether any new messages appear in the console. Anything that sounds like it could be relevant?
should i open web console while I'm in the Ensight program?
Ok, just got these messages invalid params passed into zE.identify Object { name: "", email: "" } vendors~web_widget.0aaa54df4f6f357d55ad.chunk.js:81:202751
I am not familiar with the Ensight program, but if you mean that web page, yes, the console is specific to the current tab so it's no use to open it in a different tab.
Sorry, our posts crossed.
Do you think it is referring to your name and email as the person who logged in to the site, or a name and email to email you the PDF? When you click the button, is it usually automatic or would it ask you for that information?
To get a little more context, if you switch from the Console panel to the Network panel, is there a new network request when you click the button?
If so:
Is it being sent to the same server listed in the address bar (same-site request) or a different server (cross-site request)?
If not:
The script error may be occurring before it sends the request, or the PDF might be generated within the page rather than requested from the server.
Unfortunately, there are hundreds of changes in every release of Firefox so it is difficult to know about all the changes that could affect a script.
Also, complex web applications typically are difficult to debug in the browser because the code usually is hard to follow, so I am not inclined to recommend trying that.
Well, this a a bit above my expertise.. I think I'll just use a different browser until firefox releases an update, hopefully that will resolve this issue. I appreciate all your help. J
I'll look into filing a bug on your behalf later today.
Thanks!
Andrew, thank you! Jim
J,
Not sure if it helps, but can you see if you experience the same issues are happening in Firefox Beta or Firefox Nightly? https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release
