Update your Flash Player Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

Flash Player Version: 25.0.0.171

Fred McD, Thanks so much. I have Windows 10 so I should install the plug in only. I have been unable to find the plugin or how to install it. It's probably my lack of computer knowledge, but could you help? Thanks again. Jim

Did you verify that the website isn't using the HTML5 media player?

You can check via the right-click context menu of the player area what type of media player is used. You wouldn't get sound if a Flash based player is used without having the Shockwave Flash plugin installed and you get sound.

You can check the Web Console (Tools > Web Developer) for error messages about blocked and unsafe and mixed content.

If necessary use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
