unwanted tab of Firefox startup

more options

I'm using a MAC, and have had Firefox on it for awhile. For the last several months, however, it seems to think I want to open one or more tabs entitled "Startup, home page, tabs, ...". I don't want them and didn't ask for them. One always opens, alongside my desired home page, and another pops up next to that one on an irregular, occasional basis. I can't find an obvious box to uncheck.... How do I get these to go away (permanently)?

If this occurs every time you click the Home button or launch a new window (e.g., Cmd+n) then I would check the home page setting. Firefox allows multiple tabs in the home page setting, with each address separated by a vertical bar. This article describes how to check that setting:

Startup, home page, tabs, and download settings

If there is no pattern to it, hmm, that's tougher.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
