Got notice to upgrade but firefox site says my version is the latest.
When Firefox opens I get a popup notice to upgrade. As a matter of security, i don't click on such things. I go to "About Firefox" instead. This time no update was shown so I clicked the site link which took me to a page that says "Congratulations." I'm using the latest version. Am I? or Do I need to upgrade? Of course, the conflicting information makes me distrust the popup notification even more. I know what Firefox version I'm using. (36.0) How does one find out what the latest version is? That's all i need to know to solve this problem myself. Maybe I don't query help very well but nothing i searched even remotely answered that question.
BTW I ALWAYS upgrade with every new release.

Hi, you can see what is the latest version here, but remember that updates may not be immediately available - it can take a day or two.
Hope that helps.
The Firefox 36.0.1 has been available as a update since March 5 and not a couple days later.
If you prefer to download then see www.mozilla.org/firefox/all
Scribe_uk Release Notes. Of Course! Not a 'Help topic' at all. Jeez, dudn't take me a minit. Well, maybe one.
James - i'd actually prefer the update to happen vs. download. I have my options set to notify and let me decide "whether" to install but "when" would be more accurate of my intent.
Thank you both so much. I realize my problem and stems from circumventing the popup notification. In my defense, It's just been hammered into my brain by worthy wizards to NOT click on anything. I even type in the urls of my bookmarks.
So let me ask you this: Can (how can) we KNOW for SURE that ALL the notification popups will ALWAYS be legit?
again, tanx mainz
Hi, I don't think one can ever be 100% certain about pop-ups, so if in any doubt, it's always best to go to Help > About Firefox.

Quite Right and, that said, your first reply is actually the solution i needed. Thank you ever so.
