I read about the various add ons from Firefox privacy pages and decided to purchase the Uniblue Speed up my computer. When I called their number to have it activated, I got a person telling me that after checking my computer there were many severe problems detected and then I was told it would cost me $299 a year to get my computer fixed. The person from Uniblue said that if I chose to go with Windows it would cost me much more. They also told me that my computer's security program (Kaspersky PURE) was not compatible with Windows 7. Up until I decided to get Uniblue I wasn't even aware that there was anything wrong with my computer.

Is this company endorsed by Firefox? They use a high-pressure sales approach and fear tactics to get you to buy their product. I don't feel that the information that they provided was truthful but wanted to know what Firefox had to say about them. Please advise.

As far as I can tell Mozilla (the maker's of Firefox) does not endorse or support Uniblue. There is a long list of people that have had problems after installing there products. From the last paragraph it has all the hallmarks of a scam. I will provide a link hare hare of what I found after a search of the Mozilla site for Uniblue.

Exactly which Firefox privacy pages recommend using Uniblue?

Uniblue is not related to Mozilla Firefox in any manner, and Mozilla doesn't endorse products such as that.

It was on the page of one of the add ons that were recommended by the Protecting Your Privacy page but I'm not sure which one. I signed up for Ad Block, No Script and WOT so it was on one of those. I have checked and no longer see the ad or link - probably because of the Ad Block that is now blocking that type of ad on my computer.

The person from Uniblue told me that my computer was not being protected by my Kaspersky program - saying it doesn't work on Windows 7. He did a screen share with me and noted that there were all kinds of problems with my computer and that only a Microsoft engineer like his company could fix my computer. He said that it would be much cheaper than dealing with Microsoft.

I hung up on him and then sent a request for a refund from Uniblue. They have since indicated that they have given me a refund (from my PayPal).

I have done a scan of my computer with my Kaspersky Pure program and there were no threats detected but there were some vulnerabilities. I am trying to contact my computer provider to find out if it's true that Kaspersky doesn't work with Windows 7.

Anyway, thank you both for your prompt replies - I feel less stressed now.

You are welcome. Mozilla does make some add ons. They do not make them all. The recommend page for the addons is probably based on downloads. Unfortunately Mozilla does not have the time to check all addons that you can download. You take a risk if it is new. Just like with the Google play store.
