Emails disappear when moved from junk to inbox, why?

When I get an email, usually from a friend or someone in my address book, and it goes to the junk folder, when I try to move it to the inbox, it disappears. I have learned to do a copy to the inbox, but it still doesn't show up. If I move it to another folder, there is no problem, it shows up. I mark the email as not junk before I try to move it. I have noticed that when I highlight the folders to move it to, there is no inbox on the list.

Ask yourself why it goes to the Junk folder. I'd think it happens because Thunderbird has made a mistake and you need to teach it what is and isn't junk to help it stop repeating this mistake.

Mark the message as Not Junk, and this will help reduce the frequency of these mis-categorizations and it will result in the message being put back where it belongs.

How to mark as Not Junk?

  1. You can right-click, select Mark As and then Not Junk.
  2. You can press J (note that lowercase j marks as Junk, uppercase J marks as Not Junk).
  3. The JunQuilla add-on provides two buttons for your toolbar.

In theory, Thunderbird shouldn't Junk messages from people who appear in your Address Book. Can you confirm the senders of these messages are listed in your Address Book?

Sometimes the emails are from people in my contacts folder.
