There is no Check for Updates menu item in Firefox any longer. When a user opens Help > About Firefox now-a-days, Firefox automatically checks for an update.
The "button" in Help > About Firefox only appears when Firefox updates are disabled.

Why do you want to disable updates? You are aware that by disabling updates you are leaving your computer vulnerable to unpatched security vulnerabilities as they are discovered, as well as performance and stability bugs.

Hello,
How to disable the Check For Updates button in Firefox v21.0 ?
I use portable versions and I want to keep every version in a separated folder. I want to disable the Check For Updates button or even remove it.
It was possible in Firefox 5.0 it should still be.
