For example, as I was filling in your log in information ... I kept hearing a voice saying "Firefox has new window." I just got "cap locks off". So this dude is following my fingers. How can I get rid of this incredibly annoying ghost.

You probably have switch on the VoiceOver accessibility feature (System Preferences -> Speech;(fn) Cmd-F5)
