My junk mail is auto deleted to about 10 days old. I need it longer I use a live.com.au account
My junk mail is auto deleted do no junk is older than about 10 days. I think this is something that live mail (microsoft) do to limit data space. I have checked my settings in thunderbird so no mail is deleted and tried to direct the junk to another folder AJUNK to try to stop this happening but it still goes to the Junk folder. Trash has the same problem , no mail older than about 10 days

- Right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
- select 'Junk Settings'
Either
- uncheck 'Automatically delete junk older than' xx day
OR
- increase the number of days.
For Deleted/ TRash folder:
- Select 'Server Settings' for account
Under 'Message Storage' To stop Thunderbird auto empying TRash: Do Not select the checkbox to 'Empty Deleted folder on exit' So, if it is selected, then uncheck that selection.
click on 'OK'
Exit thunderbird Wait a few moments for background processes to complete Start Thunderbird.
Note: there are some servers that auto empty the Trash on a periodic basis. Gmail will auto empty the server Trash folder every 30 days. So if you use IMAP then you will see TRash empty regardless of Thunderbird settings.
The bottom line is this. Do not store emails you want to keep in Trash/Deleted.
Trash is for unwanted emails. Sometimes it is possible to delete in error but usually you would realise this immediately or within a short period of time.
Thank you Toad-Hall but your answer doesn't help as it is the server that is deleting the mail not Thunderbird. I sorted the trash problem by having it go to a different folder. I know trash is for deleted mail that you shouldn't need but I like to keep it for about 6 months as I have found this useful for me. I tried the same for Junk but it still goes into the Junk folder even though I have set Thunderbird to send it to a new folder.

did you do the following ? In Account Settings > Junk Settings
- Select: 'Move new junk messages to:'
- Select 'Other'
- Select: a different folder on the account or select 'Junk on Local Folders'
- Do not select 'Automatically delete junk mail older than x days'
- click on 'OK'
Restart Thunderbird.
Thank you and yes I did all that which was successful for my trash but I can't get junk to go to another folder for junk.
