I have 2 installs of Thunderbird on 2 different desktops accessing the same IMAP account.

On one machine I have:

Automatically delete junk mail older than 3 days

On the other it is:

Automatically delete junk mail is unselected.

Which has priority?

I am seeing junk mail from over 30 days in there so I'm guessing that if one installation does not automatically delete junk mail, then none of them do. Does the longest duration take precedence?

Thanks

I updated the 2nd installation to delete after 14 days, but I'm still seeing mail from 16-Feb-22 which was the last time I manually deleted all the mail in the junk folder.

How do we get the "Automatically delete junk mail" to obey?

Thanks

What mail provider are you using? I am amazed at how few folk actually mention the more relevant things like their mail provider and what error messages they see when seeking assistance with their issues.

Google for instance has a whole raft of overrides regarding mail deletions. Including a default setting to ignore it.

A2Hosting.com Uses cPanel. No error messages. Automatically delete junk mail just doesn't do anything.

Let me know if any other details would help.

Thanks, Matt

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? The "Automatically delete junk mail" settings seem to be disregarded.

Thanks

A few thoughts - Is this in the correct per-account setting? (Not in the Local Folders 'account' - in the IMAP account's settings?) Just worth checking as Local Folders may be the first option you see. Is the path of the junk folder shown in the account settings actually the junk folder you are seeing that doesn't empty? Is the email actually in Thunderbird's Junk folder, not a similar folder (junk/trash/bin) created in webmail email folder structure? That is, the email gets there by clicking the flame icon button in TB to mark as junk, and is in the path defined in the account settings. As it's IMAP and a hosting platform, maybe there are settings at the server end preventing deletion on the server, like Matt suggested. Not being a sysadmin I can't help at that end. Cpanel or the hosting support groups may be able to help.
