cache always 12.2mb

Firefox Version = 22.0 Addon = Ask for Sanitize 2.2 Addon = Secure Sanitizer 0.5.0

Every time I shut down firefox there is 12.2mb of cache to delete, even if I open firefox and shut it straight away then there is still 12.2mb to clear.

I have set Never remember history, which I am told is the same as private browsing.

Previous versions of FF had 0mb to clear when Never remember history was selected. Why is there always 12.2mb to clear using secure sanitize and ask for sanitizer, in previous versions there was nothing to clear.

This looks like a problem with the Secure Sanitizer extension that may not work properly in the current Firefox version if it did work in previous Firefox versions.

Thanks for the quick response.

I uninstalled secure sanitizer.

How can I tell if without the secure sanitizer if there is still 12.2mb being deleted each time I shut down FF?

Thanks,

Dan

You can see the current cache usage on the about:cache page.

WARNING: RANDOM THOUGHTS, POSSIBLY NOT HELPFUL

Firefox's cache consists of a few big files with lots of stuff in them and lots of separate files split up into numerous folders. Is it possible that the add-on is overwriting the big file content but not shrinking/compacting those files?

You can view your cache on disk by entering this in the address bar of a My Computer/Windows Explorer window, then clicking into the most recently used folder:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

(Note that this temporary storage location corresponds to your main profile folder, it is not the main profile folder itself, which is under this path: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\)

You might compare what happens when you use Firefox's native cache clearing feature, i.e., do the files physically shrink?

I haven't thought much about the interaction with private browsing. Is the cache used in private mode, and if not, does clearing it in private mode just fail?

It looks like secure sanitizer was trying to clear

_CACHE_001_ _CACHE_002_ _CACHE_003_

in \AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<randon-text>\Cache

which adds up to 12.2mb

What is this?

I've had a look around but no answers?

Those 3 files contain cache content, but it's hard to parse in a text viewer. The best way to explore the cache is from within Firefox, using the about:cache page, then the disk cache. When there is a lot of content, that page is very slow to load.
