FVD Speed Dial disabled as an Add On but now I lost all my links
Apparently FVD Speed Dial was disabled but now all my links are gone - there was no warning given to this so that I could back up and save all my links. Help?!

Hi, this can be a problem when an add-on is uninstalled/reinstalled, but if it's a disable/enable situation, I don't think you should lose data. Are you able to re-enable it, or is it forced off and can't be re-enabled?
Unfortunately, if an extension cannot be enabled, some of the built-in tools I would suggest are not available.
Could you take a look at this reply on another forum about your speed dials possibly being backed up by the maker of the add-on:

Thank you! Unfortunately when I go into add ons in my Firefox info it says it was disabled due to a security risk. The link they shared was here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked-addon/[email protected]/77.5.7/
I just want to be able to save my links :(
Got the same problem. I guess the only option is to download Chrome or another browser, install it there and either copy them across, or use that browser until the developer updates it. The lack of notice to actual users is pretty poor tbh.
How do you copy them across? I can't even recall what they all were....

That's useful to know, and unfortunate that it couldn't be worked out.

I think the idea is to load them from the FVD server in Chrome (or probably the new Microsoft Edge if you don't have Chrome). Once you can view them in Chrome, you can make a list or export or in some other manner get those URLs over to Firefox's built-in new tab page, or a different speed-dial add-on.
Why in the hell would you disable FVD Speed Dial with no warning to enable us to save our links??? That is pure BS! I consider the reason you gave for disabling it a non-issue for me. Now, you need to give users a way to retrieve their links! Very inconsiderate and irresponsible of Firefox!
I am appalled that you disabled a very vital add on for many of us without even a heads up!!! I used FVD speed dial for everything personal and work!! NOW I HAVE A HEADACHE ON MY HANDS!! You have lost me as a user!!
FYI for others with the same issue.. If you also had eversync installed to sync webpages to other computers, you should have the speed dials still available in the cloud from your last sync. Just download another browser.. It works on opera and google chrome. After you ad both the speed dial and the eversyc. just run the sync, log on when requested and the hit the download and overwrite button.
Untill Firefox allows it back or you get a work around this should work for you..
Me... This is the last straw.. I wont be using any mozilla products again!!!!!
Since Speed Dial [FVD] was disabled without notice, I couldn't perform a back-up of my Dials/speed dials to Windows file. App offers back-up to Eversync, but to retrieve and reinstall them (on Chrome version) you have to be subscribed to their paid service. So all of my speed dials lost, about 50 of them. Need a solution to avoid hours of unnecessary work. Thank you.
Geo Vir,
You can enroll in EverHelper for $5 a month. Enroll. Backup. Use the dials on Chrome (I guess), and then cancel your monthly account. I despise the sneaky-eyes of Chrome, so I won't use them, but I will be looking for a replacement to Firefox, I guess. First they messed up their Android app, and now this. :-(
This suggestion posted above works 100%! Thank you jscher2000!

you may activate addons next 24 hour, than we make job and save what we want.
Hi
In 2020, we became aware that the developer of the FVD add-on had begun intercepting search queries that were being sent to a third-party search provider, in clear violation of the Mozilla Add-ons Policies. After a repeated violation we again explicitly told them under which circumstances this type of data collection is not acceptable. At the time, the developer disabled the feature, and we continued to host FVD Speed Dial.
Recently we have become aware that the developer has re-enabled the offending functionality, which remains in violation of AMO policy. In light of these repeated offenses, we have blocked this addon. While we regret the impact that this has had on some of our users, we believe that our commitments to user safety and the importance of user trust in Firefox and its surrounding ecosystem have obligated us to take this action, and we stand by this decision.
I think giving 24 hours courtesy notice to users would have been the right balance. Like others, I am looking at alternatives to your browser but first I must try to figure out how to find all my work links
Thank you for your feedback.
I know this is not a real good option but if you are using a password manager, all of your dials would be in your password manager., I know it is a hassle. I especially enjoyed the FF comment that they were sorry about the problem THEY created by not giving us warning. They said they were "sorry" for the inconvenience but they stand by their decision. I am like a lot of users, I am looking for another browser. Not because of the problem but because of the way it came down like we the little people do not deserve a warning. I am the gonna be the bigger person and tell FF GOOD BUY.
Thank you for your feedback.
