I've used thunderbird for a long time now, and the message pane has been fiddly before. Recently, though I can't say just how recently, it's completely blank for all folders and all accounts. As the question mentions, I've run the gamut all the way up to reinstalling (and switching from 32 to 64 in doing so). I currently have no addons enabled.

Weirdly, the message pane works in safe mode.

If it works in safe mode, see if you have a broken layout. To rebuild it, launch in safe mode, check 'Reset toolbars and controls', click 'Make changes and restart'. The other, less likely possibilities are that you have hardware acceleration enabled in normal mode, or you have a userChrome.css file.

I'm using 75.0b1, and I wanna say that the problem has persisted through the last couple of updates, going on a few weeks now.

Thanks very much for your reply. I tried both suggestions but neither fixed the message pane.

Thanks very much, resetting toolbars and controls did the trick.
