I need a CSS command which will move the Back & Forward buttons further in from the edge of the FF window.
Probably due to other CSS commands in my Profile, my Back Button + Forward button anre currently under the Red/Orange/Green buttons. Probably due to having the address bar at the top with a narrow space above and below. But I have space before the address bar and so want to move them there. At the moment they work, but the risk is catching the R/O/G buttons, and it looks poor.
Also, what is the code for reducing the space above and below the address bar.
Thanks

Hi, is there a reason that the Blank Spacers in Customize will not work ?
No idea on the other code.
You do have the Bookmarks Toolbar and the Menu Bar turned off as well as the Title Bar ?
Are you using permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History)?
No I have tried that.
Not using Private Browsing, From top downwards have Address Bar, Bookmarks, Tabs
Can you attach a screenshot?

There is normally a flexible space before and after the location bar. Do you want to move the B/F buttons to the right of this element?
Doing that shouldn't be a problem in customize mode.
I have put flexible spaces before the location bar, and it will not pick up being before the Back Button. The screen shot below shows the current situation
Can't you move the flexible space before the B/F buttons?
You can try to edit the value of this pref on the about:config page>
- browser.uiCustomization.state
This pref store the toolbar customization in JSON format.
You can move "customizableui-special-spring1" immediately at the start of the list.
{"placements":{"widget-overflow-fixed-list":[],"PersonalToolbar":["personal-bookmarks"],"nav-bar":["customizableui-special-spring1","back-button","forward-button","stop-reload-button","home-button","urlbar-container","customizableui-special-spring2","downloads-button","library-button","sidebar-button"],"toolbar-menubar":["menubar-items"],"TabsToolbar":["tabbrowser-tabs","new-tab-button","alltabs-button"]},"seen":["developer-button","webide-button"],"dirtyAreaCache":["PersonalToolbar","nav-bar","toolbar-menubar","TabsToolbar"],"currentVersion":14,"newElementCount":2}
You need to close and restart Firefox after modifying this pref to make the change effective.
- Firefox -> Quit Firefox
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.
Hi, thanks for your help. I have used about: config before, but only to change True >False. As suggested I have moved "customizableui-special-spring1" to the start of the list of browser.uiCustomization.state. I also added a comma after it, so it is before the original start of the list which is {"placements".{ Have I got the phrase in the right position? Was that comma correct? You first said ......try to edit the value of this pref on the about:config page> If that relates to the flexible space, you mentioned, how do I edit the value? or have I done it by moving it ?
If one goes to the hamburger menu> Customize, I have put in flexible spaces on the extreme top left of the location bar strip, but as there is no Back button actually there at the time they just land around or on top of the Red/Orange/Green buttons. So I don't know how to park a flexible space on the left of the Back button! At the moment, there seems to be no change! Awaiting your reply! Thanks
You do not change "customizableui-special-spring1", you only need to move this item to the start of the "nav-bar" section. You can paste the value I posted above in browser.uiCustomization.state or edit the current value in a text editor and move the spring item ("customizableui-special-spring1") to the first position in the "nav-bar":[] list
