Since my Firefox upgraded to Version 60.0.2 (64-bit) running on a Windows 10 PC, my browser stops responding when I am trying to download a file. I have to kill the process and restart Firefox to get it working. Most of the time I can download the file on the next attempt, but sometimes it takes several attempts before it's successful.

Where is the file coming from and what is the size and also some sites if if the file is too big and taking to long will terminate the download. That would mean you need to get a file downloader to better manage your downloads.

The file size and source is not the issue. Some of them are less than 3K. Happens with various file types including PDFs. Also from various web sites

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

It is possible that security software (anti-virus, firewall) is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

It's going to be difficult to use the Safe Mode since the failure does not happen every time. I will try the security software possibility.

Whether or not the problem happens in Safe Mode - this will give a indications where he problem is or coming from.

I went to Safe Mode and restored the Theme to the Default. Nothing gave me an indication of any issues. However, I have not had the failure for several days so maybe the problem has resolved itself.
