Clicking on text, a link, or most anything else results in a Redirecting Prevention Message. Allow takes me to unfamiliar page, x to blank page, closing tab OK.

Doing almost anything involving a mouse click: editing text, advancing to the next page on a site, clicking on a link, etc. will frequently result in a blank page with a Redirecting Prevention Message at the top. See attachment 1. Clicking on Allow will take me to an unknown page, usually one purporting to add a desirable feature to my Mac if I will just install the offered software. See attachment 2. I strongly suspect malware, especially considering the unsolicited software offer. If I click X instead of Accept, the top bar disappears and I am left with a plain blank page. Closing the tab takes me back to normal. That being the case, this is little more than a nuisance, but a dangerous one given that it is probably some sort of malware. Is anyone familiar with this problem, and how to fix it? It happens often enough to be annoying, and could possibly cause serious damage to less cautious users.

Those are ads.

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a good ad / pop-up blocker.

In Firefox 56+ the "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page" setting can no longer be found in Options/Preferences.

You can modify this pref on the about:config page to enable or disable this feature

The "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page" warning is meant as an accessibility feature so people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and isn't meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.
