I am hoping that there is a way to back out of an updated add-on, to a previous version. I purchased a license for the Bulk Image Downloader application, and installed the FF addon to use the app in your browser. The addon that I was using before it was updated to 5.13, was 4.96.0.0. Now that the addon has been upgraded to 5.13, my BID app no longer works, and they want me to buy the license again.

What I would like to know is, does firefox have an archive for outdated add-ons, and if so, can I access that archive?

Sounds like BID has their head up their a$$ or you misread the information that they gave to you. There are many download extensions available out there, which wouldn't survive in the marketplace if their users had to constantly duke out the bucks for every update that was needed.

It's not that Firefox doesn't support older versions of extensions, but that the extensions don't support the version of Firefox that user's want to install BID into. Firefox makes the product that gets added on to - it sets the "standards" and the extensions developers have to follow Mozilla's lead - IOW they need to be compatible with Firefox.

That said, Firefox has been undergoing massive changes "under the hood" recently, but that coming to a conclusion. As of Firefox 57 WebExtensions (WE) are all that Firefox will use on the Release channel and Beta channel versions. "Compatibility" changing version by version (every 6 weeks) shouldn't be an issue with Fx 57 and later, so extension developers shouldn't need to make frequent changes to their add-on.

Ask BID if purchasing their update is a one time thing or if that will be their new way of doing business. I suspect that there would be a charge for their new WE version add-on as most WE extensions need to be completely re-written which is almost as hard as developing an extension from scratch.

I contacted BID support, and was told that they had to make the update to their add-on, because FF's new release no longer supports the older version of the BID add-on. I really enjoy using FF. BID works great with FF, cuz it's a great browser. In my humble opinion, it runs rings around Chrome, and IE. I have to make a choice, and you can help me. I do not like Chrome, or IE. So I am not going to change from FF. BID has spoiled me, so I'm either going to have to go through withdrawl pains, and download images one at a time (yuck). Or, I can ask you very kindly, to please create a patch that will allow the old version of the BID add-on to work with the new FF upgrade. How about it?

P.S. I am NOT going to buy new updates of the BID add-on every time FF upgrades. Cause I believe that if they get away with charging us for the update this time, they will continue to do so in the future.

This download manager works separately from the browser. The browser tells it what to download, and off it goes.

http://www.freedownloadmanager.org It is a powerful modern download accelerator and organizer for Windows and Mac.

I had the same problem as you. I believe that the version of BID you want is 4.91, because there is no 4.96 on the old addons list. And you will need to rollback to Firefox 56 in order to function properly.

BID 4.91- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bulk-image-downloader/versions/?page=1#version-4.91.0.0 Firefox 56 - http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/56.0.2/ Just choose your system, win32 or win64, your language, and download the Firefox 56.0.2. There is no need to uninstall your current Firefox, just run the installer on top of that, and after that, disable automatic Firefox update, because when you close Firefox and reopen, it will update again disabling BID, and don't forget to disable automatic update of BID too.
