java development tookit and chat function
I use Firefox 32.0 and am attempting to run Chat in Blackboard on a secure system on a University and get an error in Firefox stating it's a security exception for missing permissions. When I go to tools and add-ons, Java development toolkit states it is blocked by Firefox because of vulnerability and you can't unblock it. When you try to update it - it says there is no update so contact Oracle. When you go to Oracle to inquire as to how you can use it, it says you can pay for support.
I need to be able to use the chat function. I don't have time to waste researching why I can't chat, I have work to do on the University server. Oracle has an issue. Firefox has an issue. I need a solution. I'm not paying for a solution. If I can't get a solution quickly, I'm going to use a different browser.
The easiest thing is for the browser to work, anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks, Sheryl [email protected]

You said that you,
get an error in Firefox stating it's a security exception for missing permissions.
It might help if you could post the exact error and a screenshot, if possible. See How do I create a screenshot of my problem?
In any case, the Java Deployment Toolkit plugin isn't needed to run Java applets (ref.) The fact that the Java Deployment Toolkit plugin is disabled in Firefox is a red herring. More on that here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Java_Deployment_Toolkit_plugin
Based on what I've found with a google search, "Chat in Blackboard" requires the Java plugin which you have installed according you your list of plugins: "Next Generation Java Plug-in 10.67.2 for Mozilla browsers, which, on Windows, also appears as Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U67 in the Firefox Add-ons Plugins list.
It may help if you set the Java Platform plugin to "Always Activate" in the Firefox Add-ons Plugins list. For more information, see these articles:
