Username or password incorrect after creating new account, tried everything
I deleted the old email account and started again. Thunderbird created the email address account, but when I try to use it, I get the message "Username or password incorrect" I can access the email account from the ISP website ok, so the login and password are correct.
I switched the pc off and restarted, same problem.
Help really appreciated.

Either the password is wrong and the server settings are correct or the password is correct but the server settings are wrong.
You have confirmed that you can access your webmail account using the password, so if the password has been entered correctly then maybe something is not quite right with the server settings.
Please post the following.
- In thunderbird
- Help > Troubleshooting Information
- click on 'copy text to clipboard'
- paste the info into this question
- you can edit/remove all the info on fonts and printers, but nothing else.

I've checked settings and they appear ok. Incoming server name: securepop.t-online.de Port: 995 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: Normal Password
Outgoing smtp server name: securesmtp.t-online.de Port 465 Connection security: SSL/TLS or port: 587 Connection Security: STARTTLS Authentication: Normal password.
Things to check:
In the webmail account accessed via a browser, make sure the option for Pop Forwarding has been selected.
Sometimes it is auto selected, but I have a couple of accounts where I had to select the option.
Check UserName is correct: Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the account User Name = full email address please double check that this is accurate. check there are no errors in spelling, commas where there should be ful stops, leading or trailing blank spaces. Click on ok to close and save settings
Then check the stored password: Tools > Options > security > Passwords tab click on 'Saved passwords' click on 'show passwords' You should see a mailbox and an smtp mail account record for the account. does the email password look correct?
If you change/modify etc a password via webmail, you would need to remove the password in Thunderbird and then GetMail which should prompt for a password. You can select Password Manager to remember it.

Checked everything and it is ok. Then checked the password and it was an old version. Deleted and then access the email account. Entered the email password that I use to access the email account on t-online (which works) and it does not work in Thunderbird.
Deleted the account and started again. Temporary stopped my AntiVirus and Firewall, still the same result.
This is really strange.

This company seems to have a different password for accessing mail in the email center (I assume this is the webmail account) and another email password for using with Pop mail forwarding with email clients like Thunderbird. So you should have one password for log to email centre and another set up specifically for pop mail accounts using email clients. As account server settings are correct and you have checked that the username is the full email address and you have Pop forwarding enabled on the webmail account. This issue really sounds like the password is not correct. It sounds like you are trying to use the email center password which will not work.
