thunderbird restore profile
I just got a new computer because my old computer crashed. I had backed up my thunderbird profiles from my appdata local and appdata roaming by copying them to an exernal drive. I would like to restore them but I don't know how. I need help to get this resolved.

I have solve this process coping the Mail Folder (messages) to a new destination, then I reinstall TB for fresh, but not config any account. After reinstaling TB I create ALL the accounts for new, and let any message folder empty. Copy the msg files (the bigger ones) to the new Local Folder and restart TB (take some time to create the messages database). Check in the Profile.ini that the relative path is the corresponding to the profile you want TB search the profile in this path), and delete the global-message_db_sqlite to recreate it (rebuild the messages data base). Follow this instructions: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer You can import the old calendar and the address book to the new copy of TB (also take some time importing the calendar if it has so many data) I hope this can resolve the issue.
I need some more detail.
I already have my profile folders that I want to use on another disc in the APPDATA\ROAMING\THUNDERBIRD\PROFILES\GUVH72UU.DEFAULT\MAIL... There is also a CALENDAR.DATA directory in the GUVH72UU directory. I don't know where the address directory is. There is a CALENDAR-JS directory in the extensions folder.
Why wouldn't I just coypy the endire GUVH72UU directory over to my new computer under the APPDATA\ROAMING\THUNDERBIRD?
There is also a Thunderbird structure under APPDATA/LOCAL. Do I also need to copy that over to my new computer?
I also don't understand your statements that you want me to reinstall Thunderbird but don't configure any accounts and the you say to create all accounts.
I also don't understand copying just the big message folders. Why not copy tall the sub-folders of the mail folder?
I need to know where the address information is stored so I can restore that too.
Thanks for your help again.
John
Hi John Yes you should be able to copy the entire GUVH72UU.default folder over. This answer https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1198805 should confirm for you that the contacts are included in the profile. Here is a short summary of the steps https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer and there is more detail here http://kb.mozillazine.org/Move_to_a_new_PC Best wishes, Agnes
