When banking on-line Mozilla will not allow me to see the details of a transaction while Internet Explorer will allow it. Mozilla was doing it, but now won't.

I do my on-line banking with Bank of America generally using Mozilla Firefox. Recently I noticed when I clicked on a bank transaction to see the "details" or to print only that specific transaction, it will not allow me to see the details.

Previously, whenever I clicked on a transaction, to see the image of a check I wrote for example, it always brought up the image of the check. Now, it will not do it.

If I use Internet Explorer, I can click on a specific bank transaction and see the details, exactly how I used to be able to do it with Mozilla Firefox.

Therefore, the problem is with Mozilla and not the Bank of America web site, right?

Are these details and images supposed to be displayed in the same tab, or in a pop-up window?

Do you know whether the documents are in PDF format? Some PDFs may appear blank or corrupted in Firefox's built-in PDF viewer. If you think that is relevant, this article describes how to switch over to using Adobe's plugin: View PDF files using Firefox’s built-in viewer.

Thanks for your very prompt reply...and offer of assistance. I tried what you suggested, but it did not solve the problem. I guess I'll just walk in to the local Bank of America branch office and let them know what I'm dealing with and see what they have to say about it.

I guess that was a wrong guess. Here are some more general suggestions.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

If that doesn't help, could you test the site in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled (Flash and PDF will still work)

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

I tried going through the steps you suggested, but still with no success. I went back to Internet Explorer to make certain I could perform the function there, and it worked fine.

However, on Mozilla Firefox when I click on a transaction to view the actual image of a check I had written, it will not bring up the image. I don't understand what has happened. For years now, I have used Mozilla Firefox to monitor my on-line banking activity, print copies of my cashed checks, with no problems. Now, suddenly, I cannot do that on the Mozilla Firefox browser...but I can continue to do it on Internet Explorer.

I don't know if Bank of American did something, or if I inadvertently pushed the wrong button somewhere, or what? I just don't dunno.

Back to my first question, in case it is related to pop-up blocking, would the check image open in the same tab or in a new pop-up window?

more options

The check image would open in the same tab that I clicked on. For example, looking at a column of dated transactions, if I click on any particular transaction, the image of that transaction, a check for example, would appear in its place in the column.

Or...if the transaction was a debit card event, and I clicked on it, it would open in its space in the column showing additional details of the event.

Now suddenly, Mozilla Firefox to go onto Bank of America's site, I can no longer click on a transaction and see the details of that event. I click on it...and nothing happens.

If I go to Internet Explorer to gain access to Bank of America's site...everything seems to work fine.

Without opening a B of A account, I don't think I'm going to be able to guess what is happening on that page. Hopefully the bank can sort it out.

Thank you very much for your prompt attention to my problem. I truly appreciate it. At least now, when I walk into the local Bank of America Branch office I can assure them I tried (with assistance) to solve the problem before dropping it in their laps.

I hope you have a great holiday season.

The link shows up as javascript void(0). And it is, indeed, void.

Hi caseym54, that link runs a script.

Could you dig into it a little further? Right-click the link and choose Inspect Element(Q). This will open the Inspector tool with the link highlighted in gray in a tree-like structure. (If you are not familiar with HTML, don't panic.) Assuming the gray highlighted area starts with <a, right-click it and choose Copy Outer HTML to copy the entire line. (If the <a is a little higher in the outline, right-click it there.)

Next, paste the it into a reply here. To prevent the forum from converting it into a live link, delete the <a from the beginning. Next, check through the text to make sure your account number (or other obviously personal information) is not in there anywhere before posting.
