A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

If the above instructions fix it great, if not, lets narrow down the problem.

Can you open it in safe mode? Make sure you end Firefox.exe process from the task manager before opening it in safe mode. Here Here are the instructions. Scroll down to see how to use safe mode when Fx isn't starting at all

If it doesn't open in safe mode, can you open it in a new profile? Create a new profile. Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

You can also try the Reset Firefox option mentioned in the above article. It will remove all your addons though which you will have to manually install.

Try opening in Safe mode, then creating a new profile via Reset Firefox.

Let me know how it goes!
