Well, yeah! I'm a heavy add-on user, and it seems like 99% of my add-ons require a restart after an update. That's ok, one restart is no big deal.

The problem is that I can check the "allow this add-on" update box for all of the add-ons at once (they all open in separate tabs), but when they prompt me with the "Restart Now / Cancel", only the add-on in the tab I restart from actually updates. What this means is that every time there is a set of updates for my add-ons, I have to restart firefox...dozens of times. Once for each add-on. Surely this is not working as intended, even people with only three or four add-ons would find this annoying. Is there an "update all at once" button I am missing? Please help me out, this tacks 15 minutes onto the start of my browsing -_-.

You can download all of the extensions in all of the tabs, then restart.

OR you can manually update your extensions all at once, which I do every morning shortly after starting up my system to help avoid interruptions.

  • click Firefox button (or Tools) > Add-ons > Extensions
    • Firefox 3.6.x --> click "Find Updates at the bottom of the panel
    • Firefox 4 and newer versions --> click on the "gear" icon to the left of the search box and choose "Check for Updates"
    • All Firefox version --> when finished you will see at the top of the display that there were no updates found or that you need to restart to finish the installation for those extensions that require a restart.
    • Firefox 4 and newer versions --> After the downloading is complete, you can scroll down the list to see which extensions have updates and you can "Undo" those that you do not want to update before you restart Firefox.
