I have used the bookmarks toolbar (windows pc) for years. Recently, when I open the browser my bookmarks revert to an alphabetical order. For example, I have the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) as my first bookmark but now it is buried at very end. How do I save the customized order of the bookmarks?

i wish i could figure out how to alphabetize my book marks, especially the dozens of youtube music videos!

as a suggestion (and possible workaround) you could put numbers in front of the names, ie 01WallStreetJournal, 02Ebay, etc....

Thanks but there is an easier way. For years the special order that I placed the bookmarks in stayed in place, this is a new issue. I want the order automatically saved and displayed when I open the browser.

Your issue is an easy fix: Click on the applications menu (top right, it looks like three lines stacked on each other "a hamburger") click on Library click on Bookmarks click on Manage Bookmarks at the bottom click on Bookmarks Toolbar click on Views (at top) click on Sort choose the type of sort you wish

thanks for the steps!

but i rarely use the library.

in any case, i tried the steps to sort by name but it seems not to work to the bookmarks in my toolbar, where i conveniently launch the sites.

"Views -> Sort" is similar to clicking a column on the header bar and only sorts for viewing purpose. If you want to sort the bookmarks then you need to right-click a folder and select "Sort by Name".

Can anyone else help me?

you may be in need of an extension for managing bookmarks.

maybe there is such an add-in for FF.

googling may help you find one.

let us know of your findings so others may implement a similar solution !

as an after thought:

if there is no extension for FF but there is for another browser, try using that browser and that add-in. Then import your FF bookmarks into that other browser and see what becomes of your bookmarks index. Then see if you can import those organized BM's back into FF. This is just a thought, if you felt like exploring.  :-)

this is brand new problem. I have never used an extension or add-on. I have my favorite bookmarks in a non-alphabetical order saved on the browser toolbar. Every time I open the browser the order in which the bookmarks are displayed revert to an alphabetical order. If I open up the library and restore the bookmarks from a backup, the order is temporary restored. If I close the browser and open it again, the bookmarks are displayed in a useless alphabetical order again.
