WAV files unable to play within browser

When I click a link to a MP3, FLAC, or Ogg file, Firefox goes to the URL of the link and plays the audio file. This is what I want to happen. When I click a link to a WAV file, Firefox prompts me to download it or open it externally in Windows Media Player. I would like it to play within the browser instead. These results occur in both normal and private windows, and after clearing the cache.

Trying the same thing in Edge and Chrome, all four audio files properly play within those browsers.

I have used this page for testing. (This site has integrated audio players, which work fine, but some sites only have a link to the file.)

Thanks, Eitan

No problem here with playing the WAV file in Firefox via the HTML5 media player. You can check the action in "Options/Preferences -> General -> Applications".

If that doesn't help then try to rename/remove handlers.json in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Unfortunately this hasn't helped solve the problem. The Applications options did not have a section for WAV. I removed handlers.json and tried again, but the problem persisted.
