Bookmarks unavailable and non-creatable after upgrade
I just did an upgrade to 81.0.2. All of my bookmarks disappeared. Fortunately I was able to retrieve the last window but I am unable to create new bookmarks. Whether I right click on the tab to bookmark or Ctrl+D to bookmark, I get a window that says New Bookmark with options of Save or Cancel. However, the only option I can choose is Cancel. This is not good.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers/profiles before using sync again.
[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.
Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.
You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.
When done, copy and post the results here.

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.
If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Windows: Open Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data
Restarting in Safe Mode brought the bookmarks toolbar back. Restarting in regular mode now shows the bookmark toolbar and the capability to create bookmarks both by right clicking as well as Ctrl+D.
Thanks to all,
