Facebook chat box doesn't work in this version, all I get is a perpetual spinning wheel. On earlier versions of Firefox this behaviour was hit and miss, sometimes it worked, others not. The fixes that are suggested in other posts are temporary, you shouldn't have to keep emptying the cache and deleting the cookies all the time. It should simply work. I'm getting tired of this now.

Hi, great looking screenshot. More information like what Extensions your running and what Security Software your running on your system would have been more helpful. So what are they please ?

Try Firefox Safe Mode to TEST & see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Thanks for reply. I have a few extensions such as tampermonkey with a few scripts that prevent youtubes annoyances such as stop autoplay, hide transport bar and an adblocker. The thing is I don't want to disable any of them as they are needed, that's why to me it's irrelevant to go into detail what they are. The spinning wheel is hit and miss, if I right click on the message and open in new tab the message opens in a new window so I can get round it that way. The safe mode answer is a common knowledge answer that's becoming a cliche now I'm sorry to say, so I'm not even gonna bother with that. Everything else works on facebook with all the extensions running so why can't a simple message box?

It's quite likely it's an Extension problem. You're going to have to temporarily disable the Extensions and bring each one back up one at a time to figure out which one is the problem. It's extremely likely FireFox is not the problem itself.

Does anyone know how to post a new question on these forums? The function seems to have disappeared, as does the login and password from ebay login page which is what I wanted to post about. 62.0.2 The username and password for ebay appears for a second then disappears. It would help if I could post this as a new question.

McCoy: Yes I did lol. PJ: The problem with that is it would take forever as the spinning wheel problem doesn't happen all the time so it would be a case of testing the extensions and waiting for the problem to happen... I'm sure you can imagine this isn't practical. If the spinning wheel always happened then it would work. However, I don't think it's a plug in issue because of the fact that it works sometimes. I'm getting a bit fed up with facebook anyway, some days it's ok but it's responsible for much time theft.
