Hi!

I need to create various Desktop Shortcuts without dragging them on to the desktop. The add-on I used to use was called DeskCut which did what I needed.

Now, DeskCut is no longer maintained or supported in FF 60.

Looking for a alternative.

TIA :)

P.S. Why didn't Mozilla build in this capability?

Hi, as Volunteer Support I have no idea why they do not. I would suppose there is other programs capable of such like this one : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/quickcut/ Please note as I do not see esr after your 52 version number. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/end-support-windows-xp-and-vista

As Pkshadow says QuickCut is a Firefox extension that will do the job. Unfortunately, the desktop shortcut has a Firefox icon rather than a specific one for the particular url.

OK. I will research QuickCut for FF 60.

If a Mozilla developer should read this, please re-think the insane way that desktop shortcuts are created in Firefox. The best implementation around is in IE and there is a small library of icons to associate with the shortcut.

Many thanks! :)

Tried QuckCut in Windows 10, under FF 52.8, but something is up.

The "shortcut" is created under the Downloads directory in Windows 10 and I can't force it to default to the desktop.

However, under Windows 7 with FF 60 it works perfectly.

Will try to alert the developer - some more coding to do.

Hi, fyi: there are a few programs that I have that will not save to the desktop either. It is a Security Issue / bug for Win10 I think or is by design as the Desktop is too close to the OS.

Glad found that QuckCut worked for you.
