Can i change title image in about:newtab? I dont want to use dial extensions because they are slow when loading as start page. Or disable updating image, then i change image in AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<MYPROFILE>\thumbnails.

Why not just try it ?

Hi Firuser  !

If you definately don't want to use an add-on like New Tab Tools :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-tools/

Maybe you could just wait till Firefox 57.0 is released next month, and see if you'll like the redesigned New Tab page :

I liked New Tab page before some Firefox Update, which removed extension from about:newtab to moz-extension://... After update the extension began to run slower as the start page (2-5 sec). ty for information about Firefox 57. I hope that the developers will fulfill all the promises in next update.

Okay, hold on, moz-extension means the page is being replaced by an existing extension right now. Can you describe what appears on the page in more detail?

And more generally:

Activity Stream

Some Firefox 56 users may see the forthcoming "Activity Stream" display which has a set of smaller tiles for Top Sites. If that sounds like what you see, check this setting:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste newt and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled preference is bolded and "modified" or "user set" to false, double-click it to restore the default value of true

Note: You can ignore the preference named browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.migrationExpired as that is just historical information and doesn't affect the current display of the new tab page.

Extension Review

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious? If in doubt, disable.

Sometimes a link will appear above a disabled extension to restart Firefox before the change takes effect. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?
