In the last days Thunderbird keeps downloading duplicate copies of messages previously downloaded. It's on the second round now, I previously deleted many of these same duplicates.

I would suggest that those duplicate emails are not actually downloading, but are deleted emails reappearing.

If this is the case then you may have a corrupted folder. I'm going to asume this is your 'Inbox' folder. Please do the following.

Move all good emails out of 'Inbox' into another suitable folder for organising. Delete all unwanted emails. When 'Inbox' is empty, right click on 'Inbox' folder and select 'Compact'.

right click on Junk folder and select 'Empty Junk'. right click on 'Junk' folder and select 'Compact'.

right click on 'Deleted/Trash' folder and select 'Empty deleted'.

You do not usually need to empty the Inbox before compacting, but if you suspect any corruption on that folder it is a wise procedure.

I have a SIMPLER SOLUTION. I right-clicked the Inbox. This gave a window of options, and I selected 'Properties'. This gave a window containing a button labeled 'Repair Folder'. I clicked on that button, and it seems to have solved the problem. The link on Compacting_Folders given in the above postings is also helpful. I will try to remember to compact my Inbox from time to time.
