What is eecohweb1.com, and why does it keep redirecting my searches?

more options

Quite often, maybe every other day or so, while navigating to my regularly visited sites on Firefox a page will automatically redirect to https://eecohweb1.com/5171142995655/e168b96dcf8e600121a9d71679334641.html It appears to be a legitimate Flash page where they say your Flash may be out of date. I think over a year ago I may have accidentally downloaded it, but haven't since and have ran all kinds of anti-virus and malware removal programs. I suspect this is the result of malware because Microsoft Security Essentials automatically pops up and says I was protected from something.

Anyone else have this problem? I've ran Microsofct Security Essentials, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, AdwCleaner, and Stinger. They don't seem to find anything.

Your computer has been probably infected by an adware, maybe by visiting infected Flash ads on some websites. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware

You can use Adwcleaner to remove it.

As I said, I've already ran Adwcleaner. It doesn't find anything, nor do any of the other ones I mentioned.

You may have ad / mal-ware. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

I put into my post which programs I'm running, and replied just above you to someone else.

Open the computers Programs Folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Go thru the list carefully.

It might be a recent malware not indexed by known anti-malwares.

Just an update, after much updating of my Microsoft Security Essential, I was able to find Hadsruda!bit and Kovter, which are both apparently malware. So, maybe that was in fact the issue. Malwarebytes and all the rest did not finding any of this.

I'm still getting these pages while navigating to legitimate sites. My Microsoft Security Essentials seems to catch this every time, and when I go to "History" and select "All detected items" It always seems to have quarantined Win32/Kovter, which is a nasty piece of Malware, I hear.

I scan my computer regularly with all of my malware finders and such and don't detect anything on my system.

Anyway, the page I talked about directs you to download firefox-patch.exe.

It's a malware offered by malicious ads, it's a common way to infect users browsing websites displaying ads (even the websites don't know they display ads with malwares). If you don't download the malware, it's fine. You can use add-ons like Adblock Plus or Noscript to block ads too.

And meanwhile, you can get a legitimate Flash update from either of these pages:
