Hello,

I am using Windows 7 on a desktop.

Twice now, I've had to downgrade Firefox to version 39 to have any stability with the browser.

In anything higher than 39, I've experienced the following:

  • Continual crashing of Firefox plug-in container
  • All video in Facebook is choppy and sped up
  • Delayed response - either websites taking too long to load, text not appearing as I'm typing, icons clicked get no immediate response, etc.

The only remedies I have found online include using the "Refresh" option. I do not wish to do this as I have a customized toolbar that would be lost. Furthermore, I don't see how Refresh should be the fix, when it is the upgrades that are causing the problems.

I have no issues with Firefox 39, but twice before, the browser automatically upgraded and I was back to having the same issues.

Are these known issues and is there a fix?

Thank

I had the same problem with version 37 and above. The issue was that my processor was not capable of handling the complexity of the newer versions. I was using a desktop with a Pentium 4 ht 3.4 GHz. I had to keep that version until I upgraded the computer.

Your System Details shows;

Installed Plug-ins

Shockwave Flash 19.0 r0 Shockwave Flash 17.0 r0
Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Note: Edge on Win10 does not use ActiveX version but its own Flash.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Flash Player Version 19.0.0.185

Note: Windows users must download the “Internet Explorer” and “Plugin-based browsers” installers.

check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Can't seem to uninstall Adobe Shockwave. I've got version 17 and 19 showing up under Plug-ins even though I've downloaded and run the uninstaller. Uninstaller said Shockwave was removed, but it's still there.

Also, don't know how to find out what my graphics driver is, so therefore, unable to search for updates.

Type about:plugins<enter> in the address bar. Now search for the plug-in.

Example; Adobe Acrobat File: nppdf32.dll,nppdf32.dll Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\browser\nppdf32.dll,C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AIR\nppdf32.dll Version: 11.0.9.29 State: Enabled Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 11.0.9

This will show you the path to that program. Copy the Path Only. Also note the name of the file, and remember it. Now Close Firefox. Open your file browser and paste the path in the address bar. Find the file, and delete it. Now you can restart Firefox. Warning ! Remember to delete the right program.

To be safe, remove all of them. Then install the current.

Deleted Flash version 17 (kept 19) but it still shows up in Tools / Add-ons / Plug-ins. Don't know if it's truly gone.

Also, how do I fix the constant "Plug-in Container for Firefox has stopped working" error message?

Can anyone else help with this? I'm still stuck with Firefox 39 and continually get the Plug-in Container for Firefox has stopped working error as well as very choppy scrolling and sometimes "Not Responding" freeze ups.
