I'm using Tbird version 3.1.20 on a MacBook OSX 10.9.5. When I select 'write' the Tbird page just greys out. No new write box appears. If I click anywhere on the page, it becomes active again. I can open emails ok, but if I try to 'reply' or 'forward', same thing. Tbird just greys out. No forward or reply box appears. I click on the page and it's active again. Try to reply again and it greys out again. Sometimes when I 'x' out of Tbird, as the main page closes, all the write/fwd/reply boxes that I tried to open appear as if they were somehow sitting in behind the main page all the time. Restarting the router, macbook, etc, does nothing, but sometimes if I just go away for 10 or 15 minutes and come back it works fine. Any ideas????

After a little research I discovered that 3.1.20 is an old 2012 version of Thunderbird. Kind of odd since my computer is only 6 months old and preferences is set for 'check for updates but let me choose...'. I've now updated to 31.3.0 and so far no problems. The old 'check for updates' was under the 'help' icon. The new one is in 'Thunderbird / About Thunderbird / 3rd line down.
